Boat Tour in Likoma
Duration: approx. 6-7 hours
Likoma Island is a small island with an area of 18 km², surrounded by majestic baobabs.
It is possible to travel around the island on a boat tour.
The island looks different from north to south, west to east, so you will never get bored.
Boat trips can be arranged at any of the lodges in Likoma.
Boat Tour Activities
1. Snorkelling on a small uninhabited island near Likoma Island
You will see lovely colourful fish swimming gracefully in the crystal-clear waters of Likoma.
On the other side of the island, you can see the mountains of Mozambique.
2. Bell Stone
When the large stone at the top is hit against the rock at the bottom, it makes a sound like a bell.
If you strike it against any other rock, it makes only a dull sound.
For some reason, this is the only rock where this bell sound occurs.
Take a boat tour to hear the actual sound.
3. Footprint Rock
The rock is stamped with a shape that looks like a human foot.
How and when they were formed is a mystery.
4. Ulisa Bay Pottery
Ulisa Bay Lodge is a good place to stop off and buy some lovely Likoma mugs and plates as souvenirs.
5. Baobab Trees
The whole island is covered with majestic baobab trees.
The scenery varies from place to place.
6. Birds
As well as the lovely fish and the majestic baobabs, the island is also home to many water birds.
